BICYCLE PEDAL CLEATS : PEDAL CLEATS
BICYCLE PEDAL CLEATS : THREE WHEELED ADULT BIKES
Bicycle Pedal Cleats
- A bicycle pedal is the part of a bicycle that the rider pushes with his or her foot to propel the bicycle. It provides the connection between the cyclist's foot or shoe and the crank allowing the leg to turn the bottom bracket axle.
- (cleat) a metal or leather projection (as from the sole of a shoe); prevents slipping
- One of a number of projecting pieces of metal, rubber, or other material on the sole of a shoe, designed to prevent the wearer from losing their footing
- shoes with leather or metal projections on the soles; "the football players all wore cleats"
- (cleat) provide with cleats; "cleat running shoes for better traction"
- Athletic shoes with a cleated sole, typically used when playing football
- A T-shaped piece of metal or wood, esp. on a boat or ship, to which ropes are attached
Toe strap
A relic from my bicycling days. Cyclists used these to hold their bike shoes against their pedals, which allowed more powerful and efficient riding. Forgetting to loosen the strap before stopping was always fun; a friend once stopped at a street crossing while standing on the pedals, couldn't put a foot down, and did a turtle roll into the intersection. Those were the days....
Toe straps, and toe clips too, were made obsolete by clipless pedals, an idea borrowed from the sport of skiing. The shoes attach to the pedals via cleats on the bottom of the shoes.
I have a couple of these things still, and use them as part of a homemade tripod mount adapter for shooting panoramas. I need this because my tripod head won't flip all the way up to a right angle to the ground, and the shots end up slanted, which makes for slanted panos. The adapter fixes all that mess.

If you recognize what that is, you probably own lycra shorts.
That it's an old cleat for my Look road bicycle pedals. It's mounted on my VERY old, well used, Marresi road shoes...over 25 years old. The Look pedals are on my road bike, a 33 year old Carlsbad MASI with full Campanolo drivetrain, including alloy Campy freewheel.
Before the Look pedals, I had Cinelli quick-release pedals...and I'm not talking about the rat-trap style. Anybody remember Cinellis?
